What is that smell??
You're driving in the middle of nowhere Ontario...you've got a young baby in the backseat.
You hear a couple little toots, no big deal. Then, it happens. A poo-xplosion like no other!
Where do we stop? This is not the time to change on the backseat.
I've got you covered.
People that live in or have loved ones who live in northern Ontario know about long drives. When you start to say things like, "It's only three hours to Thunder Bay" You know you're a northerner. When you're travelling with children, it seems that it adds an hour of stops per 3-4 hour trip...that's been our experience anyway. And again, you never know when those toots are going to turn into something more.
That is why I have started a map with some information and review of baby changing tables and the washrooms they are held in throughout parts of Ontario. I have travelled a good chunk of the Trans-Canada highway throughout Ontario, but not only recently have I done this with a child! That has certainly opened my eyes to the cleanliness and lack of change tables (especially in men's washrooms - come on!). On our first trip or two from the north to southern Ontario, I was quite the anxious mama travelling with my 2 week old son with the recommendation from our doctor that we stop every two hours. I opened up Google Maps and ensured I could see a stop every two hours, which was easy...we had done this trip many times and always stopped at various places depending on the time we left, etc. BUT I did not have my mama goggles on at that point. MAN were some of those places gross!
This is part of why I chose to create this Google map with info and reviews. I know it's a bit odd and maybe a little bit nuts - but so is parenthood!
After creating this map, I realised a few things:
1. We stop at WAY too many fast food restaurants on our trips. I would love to check out more local spots (cafes/restaurants). If you know of any, please let me know.
2. Although we pass provincial parks all the time, we don't stop and explore them very often...especially now with our little guy. Can't wait til the coming summers when we can explore the trails as a family!
3. I've only covered a small part of Ontario - I will have to pay more attention or maybe try some different routes from the north to the south and vice versa! I will also continue to seek out change tables on the routes and in the cities that we frequent.
Please feel free to let me know of other places to add! There is a lot more of Ontario to be explored!
The blue pins are change table info/reviews and the orange pins are great places to stop to stretch your legs, whether it's for you, children or pets!
